President’s Message – August 2022
Dear Sisters in Christ,
I recently enjoyed a scripture reflection from Romans 8:26 that focused on how when we don’t know what to pray, the Holy Spirit intercedes for us.
In the same way, the Spirit too comes to the aid of our weakness; for we do not know how to pray as we ought, but the Spirit itself intercedes with inexpressible groanings.
This fits my life in two ways. First, my sweet 97-year-old mama is in the hospital and I don’t know exactly what to pray for her experience and healing. I’ve spent many hours by her bedside. We’ve prayed Psalm 23 together and other special prayers. But a dear friend asked me what she could ask God for me and I had a hard time finding words. My mind went back to how God prepared me for this time with that scripture reflection. I realized that I had to trust God to know best and to let the Holy Spirit help me talk to God when I don’t even have the words.
In a second beautiful way, as MCCW prepares to support the kick-off of CWOCs and women’s ministries around the world, we may sometimes find ourselves not knowing specifically how to pray for each other as we strive to be vibrant chapel groups and beacons of hope and faith in military communities. However, at all times, the Holy Spirit is our conduit to intentional prayers of support in our ministry endeavors.
Be sure to mark the dates in your calendars for our spring regional retreats. Muffy and all the regional teams are hard at work preparing events that will touch hearts and change lives. Full details will be released in October when we launch our redesigned and rebranded website.
We also hope you will join us at least once a month for our daytime or evening Pop in and Pray sessions led by Bernadette. Even if you watch on replay, these are quiet times of reflection that can be an oasis of inspiration in our busy lives.
As you read through this month’s edition of The Well, I hope you will feel energized by the season to come–a time to rejoin our friends, to welcome new members to our Bible studies, and to find a faith community wherever the military finds us this year.
United in Christ,
Bevin
