President’s Pen – May 2023
Throughout the Bible, believers and non-believers alike have looked to the heavens for signs from God. Sometimes He provided pillars of cloud and fire. Moses saw a burning bush. Daniel certainly saw his deliverance from the lions’ den as a sign. Paul and Silas must have perceived their prison doors flying open and chains falling loose as a sure sign from God.
Yet, many times God remained silent and did not reveal His will or perfect plan in an overt way. This still happens today. But our faith requires that in these moments of silence we must trust God anyway and find comfort that he’s always working things for our good.
I was recently reminded that even if one is living through a personal drought of signs from God, that as a universal body of believers, we can –we MUST—find refuge in the signs and affirmations God gives to others. His promise to never leave us or forsake us is real. He is always available to us for sustenance through the Eucharist, prayer, personal bible study, and in our community of Catholic military women.
There is great comfort that we can see God at work in our world, the military, global chapel locations, friend networks and in our families. There may not be a billboard on the road that says, “This is a sign that God is present in this time and place,” but there is a bible-board that gives us the only sign we need. The sign of the cross.
I pray that if you are looking for signs about how to rank your next duty station list, or guidance on picking homeschool or public school, or even if you are needing wisdom on living on post or buying a home in this crazy market that you will be reassured by God’s eternal watch over His flock. Even in times of silence, He is with us.
Your sisters in the worldwide MCCW community join you in praying for discernment in all aspects of our life as together we strive to live in holiness and communion with Him. May we keep our eyes peeled to the cross and God’s ultimate sign to us of eternal love. That is all we need to face this world with hope and faith.

Welcome to all our women who are meeting us at THE WELL on this Feast of our Blessed Mother in honor of her Assumption. I pray everyone has arrived their duty stations and have had PCS moves that have outcomed well since we all know the stress-and sometimes surprises-we receive once we arrive and begin to make our houses the homes we need them to be.
